Brenda Grant, a Stamford Hospital employee, has been honored by the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Health Quality Promotion, as one of five national infection prevention and control assistants. Grant will be called on by the CDC two or three times a year for a one- to two-day commitment to assess critical infection prevention and control issues, primarily in the Northeast.
Infection prevention and control assistants will deploy into the field to perform rapid infection control assessments to help better decide how to use CDC resources. The secondary goal is to act as a regional consultant to provide "on-the-spot" infection control advice and training in the event of an outbreak.
Grant has been a nurse at Stamford Hospital for 36 years. For the last 16 years, she has been a senior nurse epidemiologist. She was honored with the Nightingale award for nursing excellence and is active on hospital, state and national committees related to infection prevention, including the National Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
